Many of my friends keep on asking me whether is Linux is easy to use? I am familar with Windows family. Can i try Linux Os?
My answer is always YES to them.Linux is one of secured Os which must be run on every computers and servers. When ever I think of Linux, first thing that strikes my mind is Tux, the logo of Linux. And I love to work in Linux Terminal. The Transparent terminal is a cool thing in Linux.Lets now see some advantages of using Linux Os,
1. Free of Cost
Many might of already known Linux is a free of charge.Anyone can download and distribute the Os to their friends and family members.Using a free operating system means not having to spend for even major upgrade or install a new version of your OS.
Download & These Linux Popular Linux Distributions,
1. Ubuntu Linux
Easy installation, a massive package repository and a dedicated user community help keep Ubuntu a great choice for newcomers.
2. PCLinuxOS
One of the few distributions to dramatically change the look of the default KDE desktop.
3. Fedora
The result of a fusion between a noble cause and an uncompromisingly corporate business plan.
4. Mint Linux
Blows a breath of fresh air across a world dominated by brown, blue and purple.
5. Suse Linux
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop gives businesses greater flexibility.
2. Security
Whenever I think about Windows first thing strikes my mind is Bug and other viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, and other kinds of malware problems.
Though security experts identified viruses in Linux.Generally speaking Linux is Virus FREE.Linux is well protected and are designed to be secure.
3. Free Pre-loaded Applications
Most of the Linux distributions are pre-loaded with essential applications that are also free such as Open office, GIMP(Image Editor), DVD-ripper, and more. So that means you can keep your savings intact. You can also fire up your software or package manager anytime and get more free applications that you want. I’ve been using Linux for past 3 years, and not having to worry about paying for software is priceless.

4. User friendly
Linux is really easy to use i.e Highly user friendly. Most of them tell Linux is very difficult and you need to be a developer to use Linux. No its not like that Linux is as easy as using Windows.
5. Efficiency
Linux is a boon for system with Lower configuration. If your PC can’t cope up with the latest version of Windows i.e Windows 7, then you should try the latest version of Ubuntu. That is because Linux is efficient and will run faster on old hardware when compared to Windows.

Personally I love Ubuntu Linux very much.I wish all readers who read this article to explain their friends to use Linux and Promote Open Source Software and their Importance. For how many days we are going to try out the same OLD windows? Try Linux, Solaris, Mac Os X and gain more knowledge on those things gradually…Windows survives because of Games only. They created a impression that its the user-friendly os… Mac is much more user friendly than Windows :).
Here are my shortlisted advantages: http://linuxblog.darkduck.com/2011/12/advantages-of-using-linux.html
Efficiency wise…this does not translate to better battery life because most linux systems are NOT optimized for all the hardware to make best use of battery life…you’ll probably see only 50-80% of the battery life you would over the same system using windows.
Over the past three years I have become a huge Ubuntu fan. However there are a couple of things that I still need in the WinDoze world (sadly..). I need to use TurboTax, and Netflix won’t run on linux (But runs on OSX – Really??).
So I am about to explore PlayOnLinux, which is based on Wine.
First of all, let me say that I am a complete Linux convert (and have been for the past couple of years). Windows and Mac are a fact of life, love ’em or not. But, for those people who are fed up of dealing with spyware, viruses, and all the other maintenance issues required of those popular OS’s, Linux is a breath of fresh air.
Imagine no longer having to spend time defragging hard drives (not needed in Linux) just to gain more speed. No need to install anti-virus software that constantly nags for updates or registration. (A firewall might be needed in Linux, but even that is somewhat optional.) Linux doesn’t slow down months after using it… in fact, I run some versions of Linux for 2 years that never seem to slow down, and this is installed on old Pentium III computers!
Although I’m typing this up on Lubuntu, which runs well on my old Compaq 6715b laptop, Puppy Linux is my all-time favourite O/S, because it improves dramatically each release, and is by far the smallest, most user-friendly and fast Linux version around. You have the option of using it directly from the CD-ROM, if desired, without having to install it, or you can put it on your hard drive or boot from a thumbdrive. So much versatility in one O/S, it’s scary!!
The Puppy Linux forum provides a ton of help and the people there are always glad to lend a hand to noobies and experts.
Most Linux distributions have a beautiful G.U.I., and can render all the fancy eye-candy that Windows or Macs have, without needing a pile of RAM or drive space. You will also find your laptop runs cooler and longer on a battery charge too.
There isn’t enough room for me to list all of the major advantages of Linux. I take care of 175 point-of-sale computers all running Windows XP. The range of problems I’ve had to deal with is staggering. Sure, Win7 is somewhat of an improvement, but it’s a resource hog and is still subject to all the problems all other versions have had in the past.
Make your life simple. Linux boots up usually within about 30 seconds, and shuts down in about 5 seconds. No need to keep your computer running all the time. Shut it down, save electricity, save the Earth, save all the hassles. Try out all the Live CD versions of Linux you can find… you’re bound to find one that meets your needs. You can still dual-boot into Windows anytime you have to run a special app, but you can easily access and use a lot of Windows docs and spreadsheets from Linux.
Well said Norm 🙂 Your comments about Linux is really worth reading 🙂
